This is a common problem and usually very easy to fix.
Final Cut Server has a restriction in the Java Client to only bring back a fixed number of clips for each search.
As a factory default this is set to 250.
This would be fine, but the Java client applies any sorts on the set after the specified number have been returned.
Therefore when a user does the perfectly reasonable thing which is to put no restrictions on the search, and sort the results by a valid field they are alarmed when the clip they are looking for doesn’t show up in the 10 pages of results.
The results would be fine if the user had less the 250 clips in the database or filtered their search to a set containing less 250 items, but in the real world this doesn’t happen.
Luckily it is easy to change the default.
When the Final Cut Server Client is launch go to Preferences.
And change the value of the first field “Maximum # of Search Results” to a high number (something like more than the number of clips you think you have, I usually just add a couple of 0’s to make it 25,000)
Then “Apply Changes”.
NB. This change needs to be applied per client (ie. for every computer and for every user on a computer).
